Yemeni Girls Have Sex

As part of the baseline assessment, reproductive health history, sexually transmitted infections history, attitude and knowledge about reproductive health was assessed. The questionnaire was based on questions that were used in previous studies in this field, modified according to Yemeni context. The data collectors were either sociology students or volunteers, who were trained during three days about the aim of the study and gathered the study files in the schools. They were supervised regularly by the field team.

The baseline data was collected at three schools of the Aden governorate in 2011, two months before the implementation started, while at the end of the intervention, post-test data was collected from these same three schools.

The outcome measures were the changes in signs and symptoms of STI and treatment uptake for reproductive tract infections. The assessment tool used was the laboratory methods: Gram-stain test to detect Gram positive rods (GPR) (for TV) and Gram negative rods (GNR) (for BV) and yeast & fungi growth (for yeast vaginitis) and vaginal pH and wet mount to detect Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Trichomonas vaginalis. Diagnosis of trichomoniasis was also made using the vaginal swab test, Api-trich oto-agk test kit (TCMD Diagnostics, 6471 East Main Street, Essex Junction, Vermont, USA).
