"Mouse Hunt'' is supposedly a comedy, but it has too many serious implications. The movie contains the best comedy moment I've seen in years, and it is a marvelous example of complex and subtle writing. It has a power of its own, a dedicated and passionate seriousness, that doesn't come off as a cheap attempt at a joke but rather as a sincere desire to show us a new side of life and behavior. An admirable attempt at social commentary that has, unfortunately, been miscast as a home-spun fable.

Sort of cute. It has been cinematically assembled from many sources (real trained mice, animated mice, an animatronic mouse for the closeups) but it has never been given a goal in life, other than to function as a plot device. Is the mouse intelligent? Does it know and care what is happening? Or is it simply a movie prop to be employed on cue? We aren't told, and we don't know.
