If you have any version of PwnageTool prior to 4.0, you will need to use that version of PwnageTool to jailbreak. If you currently use PwnageTool 4.0 or later, please try the new option on PwnageTool 4.1.3 which will update your version to PwnageTool 4.1.3 and will also get you the new firmware pwnagetool 4.1.3 will unlock. You can grab pwnagetool 4.1.3 from our downloads section. Note that the instructions on how to jailbreak using PwnageTool 4.1.3 are different from those of 4.0.
It's important to note that PwnageTool is able to unlock the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS with basebands later than 05.13.04. It will also be able to unlock those with basebands older than 05.13.04 but it does not support basebands that are newer than 05.13.04. It's important to know that the iPhone 4 will use the 06.15.00 baseband for jailbreak as well. In order to unlock these basebands, you will need to use pwnageutool and follow the instructions.
Step 3: Since this tool requires you to jailbreak, you will have to install Cydia if you haven't already. You can do so by heading over to our Cydia download page and install Cydia using the usb installer. It is very important that you save the Cydia image to your desktop. The following step requires you to be on your desktop, so you will have to be able to get back into your iPhone.
NOTE: There are two separate blogs detailing unlocking iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and both are very important to read. Make sure you read step 4 as it will unlock both of the older generation devices.
After downloading the files, open PwnageTool and open the IPSW file. You will be presented with two options, either choose the iPhone 3G or iPhone 4 IPSW file depending on what device you have. After you have selected the correct IPSW file, it will be downloaded and installed onto your iPhone. If you don't know how to do this, you can find out here.
Step 2: When the installation is done, launch PwnageTool and launch Ultrasn0w. If you are unsure how to use Ultrasn0w, you can find instructions here. It is very important that you are running the baseband you chose in Step 1 before you launch Ultrasn0w. Otherwise you will get a message saying that the baseband you are using in Ultrasn0w is not supported. The baseband you are going to use should now be listed under the Ultrasn0w option. If you are not sure if the baseband you picked is correct, go back to the baseband's page in PwnageTool and check what version of iOS it supports. 827ec27edc
