Sonica, a native of Ghaziabad, has been working as a DJ for the last 12 years. She was arrested during an event in Saifabad, Ghaziabad, on March 24 for playing the Hindi song and was subsequently booked for causing unlawful acts. The police also impounded the CD player that Sonica was using to play the song.
Protesters gathered outside the Ghaziabad police station asking the cops to look into the matter and let Sonica attend the event. At 10am, there were nearly 200 people protesting outside the police station. Some of the protesters carried placards reading, ``Nagin nagin nahi, Sonica nahi.'' According to the protestors, Sonica was booked for a baseless case and she had been falsely arrested.
Sonica is against sexist and misogynist lyrics and doesn't play songs with anything to do with sexual harassment . She also asks her musical directors to avoid cheesy songs, especially those with the word 'cheap' in the lyrics.
However, there was no stopping this young boy from his love for music. Sonica Srikanth set up a small DJ party, where his dad would play music and DJ Sonica could play the background music. This small party had a secret identity and would go by the name of DJ Soni Srikanth - just like an undercover police officer.
In fact, Sonica Srikanth was just 16 years old when she was stalked and bullied, just for being a DJ and her love for music. She was suspended from college and her parents called off the wedding that they had planned.
